Landscape Design Questions About Front Porch Decor

Joseph asks…
Halloween decor? (haunted pirate ship)?
Every year I do a Halloween display on my front porch for the many trick or treaters to enjoy. Last year I did a haunted cemetary, this year I want to do a haunted pirate ship or ship wreck. I would love to hear your ideas and suggestions! I already have a list but it is very short considering I only minutes ago decided which theme to go with. Thanks!
Thanks! Each of you have greatly helped me out with your creative ideas!

First I would start with the pirate ship. Make sure the sales are torn and dirty. I would make sure the wood looks old and has some holes in it as well. I would have a skeleton steering the ship and other skeletons sitting and standing as well. Put a hook on one of the skeletons hands and a peg leg. You could also put eye patches and pirate hats on some of the skeletons. Have some fake pirate swords sitting by the skeletons or have them holding them. You could also have a skeleton of a parrot on the captains shoulder. I would also have a fog machine inside the boat so it gives the ship that spooky feel.

Need outdoor Christmas decor/ display ideas?
Last Christmas we were one of the few families on our road that didn't have a lighted house. I had a door wreath and candy cane driveway markers and large bows on the windows but were all unlit. This year I want to do something but I think most of what is available is either tacky (inflatables) or common (grapevine reindeer). I don't have a front porch so I can't wrap pine roping around anything, we have a 2 story house and DH will not go up to hang trim lights.
I'm just all out of ideas to add some light at night. Can anyone help with ideas or a website link or whatever you can think of?

Have any trees in the yard?
Get some cool lights and wrap them up!
Also stars are very christmas - y without beeing overly tacky.

Did anyone else catch this on Living Lohan?
Are they REALLY filming at their house, or a fake one, cause when they show shots of the house its different from when they showed the fire department coming to their house, they show pumpkins and halloween decor out on the front porch, and then when they are showing the house shots, they are not there, the halloween decor... any thoughts>?

landscapeliving answers:
Sorry, but I refuse to watch this show!! And, I watch LOTS of reality TV.
I cannot even stand to look at Dina Lohan! She exploits her kids so she can get famous, because she has no other talents! I hope no one watches this, and then maybe it will last just one season! (Oh, and that Ali Lohan looks like she is 35 years old!! Why would her mother let her dress her up to look so old?!) That family is a trainwreck- do we really need a show to prove it to everyone?!?

What's this spider? Is it dangerous?
I have another spider on my front porch and I saw it in the day. I think it was eating another spider. It's brown with stripes on its legs. With its legs its a little smaller than your fingernail. Big, patterned abdomen and not a circular web, its web is more layered and like the halloween decor. Do you no what this is? If so thanks.
O ya I'm in Georgia

Daniel asks…
ordinance against trashyness?
Is there some kind of law? or ordinance? that states that people are not to leave their living room furniture sprawled out over their front porch and front lawn... because it seems like living in this area you MUST have one couch on the porch and some kind of other interior decor in the yard---- all of which is not to be thrown away but to sit on now that its sunny out.... Please tell me there is SOMETHING. My neighborhood is experiencing some sorta white-trash make-over and honestly I want to know if theres anything that can be done about it.

landscapeliving answers:
Well, depending on your neighborhood, there may be an ordinance (like, if you are in a gated community; which, from your question, i assume that you are not), there could also be some sort of law in your city or town about leaving garbage outside, which can be meant to be large trash, like couches, nonworking cars, and old appliances.
In my neighborhood (in philadelphia, pa), we have a block captain, and i would direct this to her, if it came up on my street. She is the one responsible for dealing with stuff like this- or when people don't clean up after themselves, or leave their trash all over. It isn't official, or a political position, she is just the lady who deals with that stuff, also she organizes the block party, etc.
You could certainly call the police in your town (during business hours) to see what your local laws actually are. Don't call 9-1-1, call the precinct in your area.
Good luck, sounds like quite a white trash makeover....
